...Love and Basketball...

My first week in the district was a busy one. Between family and friends, I was invited to attend several happy hours over the course of two weeks. And although the venues ranged from cigar lounges to bowling alleys, the premise remained the same; drink a little, laughed a little, and flirt A LOT :)

Well apparently my flirting worked because before I knew it, I had a date for Wednesday night. The same night of round two, game one of the 2013 NBA Playoffs. Coincidently, my date and I are both Miami Heat fans and we are both from Florida. And although this made me less nervous, I still asked that daunting question— what should I wear?

So as I began digging through piles of shoes and clothes that didn’t seem to compliment anything, I received a text. It was from lover boy, disclosing the location of our first meeting.
We decided to meet at a local soul food restaurant, with the intent of watching the game. So my selections were 100% based upon the location of dinner. I didn't want my style to express desperation, which could be depicted through overdressing. But I also didn't want to show a lack of interest, by not dressing my best. So I came to the conclusion, why not go with the flow and rep' what you know? The Miami Heat.

Miami Heat T-shirt, high waist jeans, knee high suede boots, a peplum jacket and an envelope clutch.

What are your thoughs?

...I'm a Washingtonian...

I have been thinking about this question all week, Chic or Cheap?

I recently moved to Washington, DC for a new job and wanted to buy myself a congratulatory present. I had been eying the Olivia Moschino belt for what seemed like months, but was perhaps only a few days, and couldn't decide if I should purchase it because the belt had its brand name on the front. Moschino sat in big gold letters, plain for all to see.

And although I understood some items tread a thin line between classy and trashy. I couldn’t determine what feeling I got from this particular belt. Apart of me was cautious, but the other half wanted to embrace the style. I loved the flashiness about the belt. Its boldness was a perfect match to my current position in life. Yet, all the while I could not determine if the belt was chic or just cheap.

Below are a few examples of how the Olivia belt can be worn.

Ultimately, I decided to purchase the Olivia Belt by Moschino. I'm ready to embrace my new beginnings. How about you?

The Olivia belt can be purchsed at Net-A-Porter :)

...shopping in 21st century...

so... I had intended to post this 6 months ago...

it seems that fashion has reached an all time high…more people are shopping online than in stores... and there are websites that specialize in providing you couture for less through sample sales...

I remember a time when customers were hesitant to purchase something online in fear of identity theft, receipt of an incorrect item, or worst you received the item but it proved to be far less than authentic. However, the more tech savvy we become as a society the more at ease we become at purchasing items online.

And if you are anything like me, you love to shop but you dislike heavy traffic in stores, long lines when checking out, and the annoying sales representative that always seems to distract your thoughts.

Considering these factors, I believe it’s time that we make a change and evolve to something new. In fact with the shift to technology as a means to an end for everything, I find online shopping far more beneficial than the plain in-store shopping experience. In fact, some websites provide personalized packages by invitation only.

So, come on!!! Be the change you need and visit one of the following websites to begin your in store shopping experience from the comfort of your own home…

...happy hour...

So, I was recently locked out of my account for failure to save my password, smh. Never the less, I have regained access and shoes are on my mind. Although, I will give an overview of all the shoe trends for 2010 at a later date, I wanted to to introduce the Happy Hour of the week...

FENDI

Milan Spring 2010 Fashion week proved shoes that defy gravity are here to stay as designers introduced the rebirth of the platform heel. Although there were many designers that caught my eye, I absolutely fell in love with FENDI's version-Cinderella. Every woman has dreamed of being a princess and Fendi not only recognized this innocence in a woman but captured it beautifully in this shoe. Cinderella comes in a variety of colors including a bold red hue. Although it’s at a higher price point and features a clear heel {wink}, to relive those feelings you once had as a child while walking in this shoes is priceless.

Until next week, let's drink to that...

...Who's that Guy...

You can't talk HIGH fashion without mentioning TOP models

"In the world of modeling that has long been dominated by women- from the world renowned Twiggy of the 1960's to international sensation Raquel Zimmermann of today- a new illuming light of freshness embarks upon the modeling industry. Stanley Cary, primarily recognized as CARY conveys extraordinary power, style, and intelligence. Thus making him one of the most visible and sought after male fashion models in the industry today."

Carythemodel, entices us with his ability to capture the simplicity in style and illuminates an internal sexy without anything "extra". So, to all the men in my world, either in person or in my mind (like Mario, Hill Harper, and George Clooney) I present a style that is perfect to aspire too. So while you’re out shopping for your family, pick up that outfit for your company's Christmas Party, or an evening out with your lady. Whatever you aspire to this season, here are a couple styles that will help you create "the look."

...jumpers can be fun and fatal...

I think everyone knows I love Rihanna . So naturally my next post would be about her recent fashion choice of the jumper. Rihanna’s STAR POWER can make anything a trend. However, recently she was captured wearing a jumper that was so UNofficial. I think jumpers are an excellent addition to any wardrobe because of the flexibility in which they can be worn. However, I dare to think of all the people who will fall short with this look, so I have put together several options to consider this season.

If you choose a black jumper you can’t go wrong. This color easily transitions from day to night with the simple switch of heels and accessories. It is also a good idea to have a jumpsuit that reminds you of summer days at the beach, preferably in denim. A jumpsuit that encompasses patterns and prints would also be a good look for the winter. Pair them with some knee high socks and a boyfriend blazer or cardigan and you’ll take your style to the next level. Jumpers don’t have to make sense. They can have plunging necklines or open backs, made of silk or velour, asymmetrical cuts or a simple frame. Whatever jumper you choose be sure to consider the cut, material, and style in which it is made. Remember, own up to your style-its officially not yours.

Officially Not Yours???

I decided to create this blog many months ago. However, I couldn’t quite conclude a functional name for its content, therefore it was never established. However, my recent trip to New York inspired me to use the name I’d been calling myself for several months now, Kitty Officially Not Yours. So for my first post, it is only fitting to use my Big Apple experience to discuss my new fashion movement.

I went to see my alma mater compete in the winter tournament called the Big Apple Classic. Since this was officially my first trip to NY, I wanted to be prepared for the 20 degree weather. Therefore, I layered every piece of clothing I could find in an attempt to stay warm. However, to my amazement, the shuttle from the hotel to the station eliminated my greatest exposure to cold weather for the entire trip. I could have easily worn a dress with some leggings. However, I let the season dictate what to wear.

That is why I created this blog. Fashion can be whatever you want it to be and in every season. Climate does not have to be the deciding factor in determining what you wear but rather an influence to your ultimate decision. We all know that designers create winter, spring, summer, and fall lines and each season we anxiously wait to see those collections. However, we are not our seasons. So, I say wear what you want in whatever way you feel most comfortable. Use those trends as a way to transition into the true you. If you want to wear a shift dress the entire winter, do it. Or maybe you want to rock some biker boots the entire summer, I’m with you.

Just remember, that fashion trends are dictated by the seasons, while your style remains the same. Own up to your style, don't get lost in the transition. Tell the season it’s Officially Not Yours.
